PRESS RELEASE: Samoa Airport Authority
27th OCTOBER 2020; The Samoa Airport Authority wishes to advise that temporary cost cutting measures have been implemented effective 26thOctober 2020.
It has been determined that a 50% reduction to staff working hours (80hrs –40hrs) is the most viable option to ensuring it remains afloat during these unprecedented times and continue to provide support to our staff.
It is no secret that aviation on a global scale has been critically affected by COVID 19 border shut downs, and Faleolo Airport is no exception.
The Authority did not rest in its exhaustive efforts to source all options available to prevent any direct impact on our staff and it is important to note that our Board of Directors and Management did not make this decision lightly.
Since April and the COVID 19 restrictions, the welfare of our staff has been at the forefront of all our financial forecasting and planning.
We have also been up front and transparent with them, throughout this time and have provided ample notice and assistance to aid with the transition.
Unfortunately, we have exhausted all means to retain full staff capacity and this decision, however lamentable, is the preferred option over mass redundancies and permanent lay-offs.
Our optimistic view is that operations will return to normal and when it does, we will welcome the opportunity to return our staff to their designated roles in service to Samoa!
